We decided for these 50 years after the passing of Pablo Picasso to pay tribute to the great maestro and homage his body of work with our glorious Space Commander – Interstellar Forces.

This painting was chosen by artist Katrin Fridriks to honor Picasso’s lifelong fascination with both surrealism and the color blue, a color she also favors and to which she dedicated several paintings herself and that so strongly shows in the main brushes that compose this artwork.
Moreover, as devotees of the surrealist movement ourselves, we thought that this composition would perfectly represent the nature of this school: one of dreams meeting reality, of surprise meeting the expected, the unknown percolating into the Known, and of the wild juxtaposition of colors that make this work so vibrant and feel so supernatural – the term actually first chosen by Guillaume Apollinaire to describe this new movement and art current: supernaturalism.

Interstellar Forces are what guided our life and evolution into existence: the birth and collapse of stars and being directly linked to the creation of our world and our beings: we were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff, guided by the obscure forces that guide the evolution of the cosmos which expresses itself through us within. We and our consciousness are a way for the universe to know itself and through art and artist to express itself in this world, and never has this manifested itself better than with the temporary incarnated experience of the creative genius of the universe that we know as Pablo Picasso.

Exposition Picasso, 50 ans déjà

La Communauté d’Agglomération du Pays de Fontainebleau et le village de Barbizon, en collaboration avec le Département de Seine-et-Marne, organisent une exposition exceptionnelle d’art contemporain du 8 Avril au 10 Juin 2023, à l’Espace Culturel Marc Jacquet de Barbizon.

Il y a cinquante ans en effet, disparaissait Pablo Picasso, plus précisément le 08 avril 1973. Son œuvre a marqué pour toujours l’histoire de la peinture et celle de l’art en général. Son influence est, et sera pour longtemps encore, décisive pour de nombreux artistes comme en témoignera l’exposition.

Barbizon est lié à l’histoire de la peinture, bien sûr par « l’École » qui porte son nom depuis le dix-neuvième siècle, mais aussi par la dynamique qui l’anime en ce domaine. 53 artistes viennent rendre hommage à Pablo Picasso qui séjourna à Barbizon. Ainsi, peintres, photographes, artistes numériques ou issus du street-art : tous investiront l’Espace Culturel transformé en un véritable musée gratuit.
